Events

Preschool events bring learning to life and help shape our school culture. They help children build confidence, connect with others and celebrate their progress. Events also give families a chance to be involved in school life and share in their child’s achievements.

Opening of the school year

Date: across the first week of the school year

Getting to know our children and families is very important to us. Building secure relationships is key to our philosophy and imperative to a smooth transition to your child's new preschool.

During the first week we hold individual Meet and Greet sessions. Families book into a session and will get to meet their teacher, have a look around their new preschool - finding their locker and new school hat. Parents will also get an opportunity to sit down with the teacher and share important information about your child and family, any health issues and your child's interests and emerging skills.

We also hold a Parent / Teacher information night, this is a night for the parents. The teachers will share more important information about all our our routines and procedures and school events. It is also a social night for parents to meet the teachers and other parents.

Book Library

Date: Every week

Every Tuesday or Friday the children will visit our library with their teacher and class. Every child has a John Brotchie Library bag and when they have their bag will be able to borrow 2 books - a fiction and non-fiction book. The child takes the books home to enjoy with their family across the week.

While they are in the library with their class the teachers will teach them all about a library and book knowledge.

Toy Library

Date: Twice a term

Time: during drop off time - 9am -9:30am

Twice during the term we open our toy library for families to borrow resources to use at home. Our toy library is full of educational resources to support the children to develop their social skills, fine motor skills and their pre-literacy and numeracy skills.

The toy library is a fantastic way to support and engage with learning at home. The teachers will help you make choices based on their observations of your child and help you support the same learning we are doing here at preschool.

Parent Information Sessions about the Teaching and Learning Program

Date: Beginning of each term

Time: we have a morning meeting - 9:15am and a evening meeting 6:30pm

Join our teachers for a short information sessions about the termly teaching and learning intentions for the term.

Every term the teachers plan the educational program covering the 5 learning outcomes from the Early Years Learning Framework. We have clear intentions and teaching strategies to support all the children work towards these age appropriate learning goals.

We believe in working in partnership with families is the best way to support children to work towards their individual learning goals. We highly recommend coming along to one of these hour long meetings so you know what your child is learning, how we are teaching and supporting them and how you can help at home.

Date: Across Term 2

As part of our love of the creative arts and our art program each class gets to visit the Art Gallery of NSW.

We catch a bus into the city, enjoy a walk through Hyde Park to the gallery to view some Australian and International artworks. We spend the morning enjoy the art works on display and even get an opportunity to sit down and have a sketch. This is where our love of John Olsen and Sidney Nolan's Ned Kelly comes from.

Art Show

Date: Beginning of Term 4

Time: 7pm

To celebrate the end of the school year and the talent artists we have at John Brotchie our annual Art Show is the highlight of the school calendar.

Each child creates two masterpieces to display in our Art Show. After our Term 2 Art Gallery of NSW excursion the children are inspired to recreate on of John Olsen and Sidney Nolan's masterpieces.

We have a special opening night of our Art Show for parents to come along a view their child's incredible artworks.
