Stories and highlights

There's always something to celebrate at our preschool! From exciting events to proud moments and everyday wins, here are some of our highlights.

A year at our school

Working Bee - once a term we hold a Saturday morning family and staff working bee. At working bees we all help to maintain our garden, keep our preschool clean and well maintained. The families help us do odd jobs around preschool.

Art Gallery Excursion - during term 2 all our children get to catch the bus into the city to visit the Art Gallery of NSW. The children enjoy viewing "real" art from some of our most famous Australian artists including John Olsen and Sidney Nolan

Cooking Program - during terms 2 and 3 the educators and children enjoy cooking in our outdoor kitchen. We cook a variety of recipes to include our eggs from the chickens and herbs and vegetables from our garden.

Science Program - during terms 2 and 3 the educators and children explore science through simple experiments. These experiments introduce scientific

Toy Library - as well as weekly borrowing from our book library we have a well resourced toy library that is open twice a term. The toy library is full of literacy and numeracy games and resources to support pre-literacy and pre-numeracy skills through hands on learning and games.

Art Show - the highlight of our school calendar is our annual art show. The children work on producing one or two masterpieces. They usually recreate an artwork from one of our favourite Australian artists - John Olsen and Sidney Nolan. We have an impressive opening night for parents to view and enjoy a social night at the John Brotchie Art Gallery and then the children and their other special guests can view the art during the following week.

We have been absolutely blown away by John Brotchie! From the moment we started, we could feel the genuine care, passion, and experience of the educators shining through in everything they do. The space is beautiful and engaging, filled with endless opportunities for play, learning, and exploration. It’s such a nurturing environment that has helped our child grow in confidence, independence, and curiosity, and has been the perfect stepping stone to school. Our child has learnt and flourished so much during their time here, and while we’re so sad to see it come to an end, we’ll always be grateful to have been part of such a wonderful and supportive community. — a parent of John Brotchie Nursery School
