We create and maintain a safe environment by protecting the wellbeing of our children and promoting positive relationships between children, families and educators.
Child protection
Strict safety checks are in place to protect children including criminal record checks of all permanent and casual teachers. All staff participate in compulsory annual Child Protection training and all staff have a responsibility to report risk of harm concerns about children and young people, within their roles, and to provide support to children and young people.
Health Conditions
Prescribed medication
If your child is being prescribed medication that needs to be taken during the day, please see an educator to complete the necessary forms for the medication to be administered. Please read the important information about prescribed medication at school. We also have school based procedures and the policy can be collected from the office.
School counsellor
School counsellors work with children, parents or carers and teachers in a variety of ways.
Their work includes:
- counselling students
- assisting parents or carers to make informed decisions about their child's education
- assessing students' learning and behaviour
- assisting schools to identify and address disabilities that affect students' learning
- liaising with other agencies concerned with the well-being of students.

Sun protection
Our preschool takes sun safety seriously and runs programs designed to make children aware of the damaging effects of the sun.Our preschool also has a responsibility to provide a safe environment for students and staff and this includes providing adequate protection from the sun throughout the year.
John Brotchie Nursery School is proudly a SunSmart school awarded by the Cancer Council. The SunSmart Program supports early childhood education and care services to develop and implement a sun protection policy that minimises children's and staff over-exposure to UV radiation and reduces the risk of skin cancer. As a SunSmart service you can be confident we are implementing an approved sun protection policy that meets the Education and Care Services National Law, Regulations and Quality Areas.
