What is an early childhood curriculum?
In an early childhood setting such as our preschool, 'curriculum' means all of the interactions, experiences, activities and routines that the children participate in.
At John Brotchie Preschool, our daily curriculum includes both indoor and outdoor play experiences, teacher led music and language group times, as well as many other extra curricular programs. The children will have the opportunity to choose experiences that they are interested in and explore and experiment new experiences and learning.
Our daily curriculum includes both indoor and outdoor experiences where the children have the opportunity to make decisions and choices through out the day. They opportunities to play independently, with a peer or in a small group and with or without an educator. We also have teacher led group times.
Our curriculum is based on Belonging, Being and Becoming - The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia, its principles, practice and learning outcomes.
At John Brotchie our curriculum decision making is based on an ongoing cycle that draws on our professional knowledge of child development, early childhood pedagogy and our in-depth knowledge of our children.
Our curriculum is responsive to the needs and interest of our children it is designed to stimulate and encourage exploration and learning. It is emergent and every changing based on careful assessment of teaching and learning.
